About Us
The Gart was founded in November 2021 when a group of CEO’s, private investors and industry leaders, all focused on climate and transition finance, met at the invitation of Oxera, the thought leading firm of economists, at a Scottish baronial manor house called “The Gart”, during the 26th United Nations Conference of the Parties on Climate Change, CoP 26, in Glasgow.
A second meeting, Gart II, took place in London in 2022, hosted by SDCL Group and Oxera, three days after the conclusion of CoP 27 in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, to listen to the outcomes as relevant to climate investment from those in the group who had attended the UN meeting in Egypt. Gart III took place in the desert outside Dubai during CoP28 in December 2023.
With the world now literally and figuratively on fire, with ever-accelerating climate events, those of us in climate finance recognise that policies and regulation struggle to keep pace with its rapid developments. Finance, however, is used to 'disruptors' to business and climate is now one of the greatest disruptors of our time.
Under the Chatham House Rule, participants again shared insights with each other in an informal and private setting aimed at fostering dialogue at Gart IV in Baku in November 2024. Our primary goal is to examine the challenges of transition acceleration from our perspective as funders of change.
The Gart Group comprises leaders and CEOs from some of the world’s largest climate finance organisations. We meet privately, by invitation only, around the UN Climate Conferences with purpose and importantly without a detailed agenda, fostering a conducive environment for constructive dialogue and action.
In addition to the annual meetings around the CoP, the Gart Group is also developing initiatives designed to connect us and drive solutions to finance challenges. A series of podcasts was launched in November 2024 on this site and we are planning to produce economic studies and additional events related to climate finance.
